The 1.4 ton bomb pierced armour of No. 3 turret & then penetrated 3 decks before exploding in ammunition handling room, blowing a hole in keel, 197 dead, 15 injured 10/08/1943
Abner Read Destroyer Damaged by an explosion at night, probably a mine whilst patrolling of Kiska Island, in the Aleutian Islands. Explosion tore a hole in her stern & ruptured fuel tanks. Many of the sleeping crew aft fell into the fuel tanks or died by smoke inhalation. Soon the stern broke away and sank, 70 dead, 47 injured 17/08/1943. Arrived under tow at Puget Sound Navy Yard 07/10/1943
Shubrick Destroyer Damaged by bomb from German aircraft, in Palermo harbour, Sicily. She was hit by a 500 Ib bomb, flooding her machine spaces & leaving her disabled, 9 dead, 20 injured 04/08/1943. Towed by American Navy tug Nauset for emergency repair in the dry dock at Malta. Arrived on one propeller at New York for repair 09/10/1943

Arrow Destroyer Damaged by explosion of British merchant ship SS Fort La Montre, in Algiers Harbour. Merchant ship was carrying ammunition when she caught fire. Arrow went along side to help, but when the fire spread to the forward hold she blew up. Arrow was badly damaged by the explosion 04/08/1943. Repair started at Taranto 27/11/1943. Repairs suspended & declared constructive total loss. She was stripped of all equipment 17/10/1944

Landguard Sloop Damaged by near miss from Henschel Hs 293 radio-controlled rocket powered glide bomb from German Dornier Do 217 aircraft, in the Bay of Biscay. Bomb caused serious damage to her hull 25/08/1943

Tynedale Destroyer Escort Damaged by bomb near miss from German aircraft, during air raid on Augusta harbour. Damage to her stem, port propeller shaft & fire control radar cables. Her speed was also limited to 15 knots 10/08/1943. Arrived for repair Gibraltar 20/08/1943
